Four Funerals and a Wedding

We have had a bad run with pets lately. All of our beautiful little Gouldian finches have died due to cold weather we suspect, although a neighbors roaming cat may have played a part.

The original parent finches were a gift to Paul when Jack was born and we added a couple more to increase the bloodlines. They are apparently hard to breed but we have had no such trouble and have had several batches of sweet babies.

All gone.

Wednesday morning after returning from Kinder drop off, ballet class and a sneak preview of Mia's darling baby Jessie, I came home to carnage.

Some complete idiot (Me) let out the flock first thing in the morning and did not check all gates were secured. Jimi Dog got in and had a play.

He left the chooks alone but the ducks were another story. I wrapped them in towels and took them to the vet to be put down. Granny duck was the worst off so, was put to sleep immediately but Lucy was a saver.

We now have a hospital set up in the bathroom and I have to clean her wounds and give antibiotics twice a day.

I admit I was going to save myself the trouble (and money) and even had the green needle drawn up at the vets, but when she looked up at me with those big doe eyes I couldn't do it. I wouldn't be a good farmer. I'd become vegetarian for sure.

I have to take full responsibility, the dog was just doing what dogs do.

The wedding was a simple affair. The bride resplendid in a white veil, the dress modern and chic. The groom very dashing in a herringbone waistcoat. All agreed they made a very handsome couple.

  1. Sam, I so look forward to your posts. They always make me laugh. Except this one...oh except the ending. Why wernt we invited? lol What a beautiful couple. JAck looks so proud and the bride looks at him so cheekly! A picture for the mantlepiece for sure :)
