A Date With My Fellas...

Mmmm, doesn't this make your mouth water.

On Easter Friday, I went on a date with my 2 boys. We went out for fish and chips at the harbour. It was nice and relaxing. We sat out of the wind by this great wall, ate our lunch, then laid down and watched the way the moving clouds gave the impression the wall was falling. Simple but great.

Jack said he was so full he could burst, so Paul thought he better check.

A nice day.

A Girls Gotta Have A Shed...

This was once a humble old tin shed that someone was throwing away.
Since we have had it some 10 years or so now, it has had many transformations, garden shed; mosaic room; work office and now it is the sewing and pencil room. (So Pip calls it.)
It has been painted, lined, carpeted, mosaicked, had windows installed, a giant mirror (to make it feel bigger) and embellished with bits and bobs. Basically it has been loved, and we love it a lot.
The art equipment is set up so the kids can get to them when the fancy takes hold - we can't stiffle the art bug can we now. Although I do admit, the paints are put away as Pip tends to enjoy body painting too much.
We just finished painting blackboard chalk on the door. So there is another outlet to keep the ferrets busy.

Sunday Morning Dress

I made this little number on Sunday morning whilst Pip slept and Jack and Paul went to look at a job.
I love it when I can start and finish something off in one session.

Mia gave me the fabric (thanks Mia) ages ago and I thought the cordouroy would be good for winter over jeans. I added the flower as an after thought but can't decide if it works or not.

Here's the test though:
"Pip, do you like your new dress?"
"No Mum, I don't like it."

Well there you go folks, another not so successful outfit created with love.
If anyone knows a two year old who might like it drop me a line.

By the way, the dionosaur dress was only worn twice and now she won't have a bar of it either...

Creative Eating

I guess the artist inside of me is struggling to get out.
I have so many ideas and so little time.
I suppose I will have to be happy with small projects at the moment.

Testing 1234

I have spent ages trying to figure out how to send out email alerts when I have posted a blog. Hopefully this gets out successfully. Keep your fingers crossed.

Beds - The Musical

Last night, we had eight bed changes...this was a typical night.
Paul fell asleep in the lounge room and came to bed after midnight.
I had already spent time in my bed and Pip's.
Jack woke so I got in with him for a while, then went back to my bed.
Pip woke crying around 3am so I got in with her.
Jack got in with Paul some time after that.
Funny thing is, I feel quite refreshed today

The day I surrendered to all this madness and sleeplessness I was a new woman.
I just decided to 'get over it' and stop worrying. It has made a huge difference.

Pickings of the week...

 Mmmmm, strawberries.
Our latest and greatest of adventures is to the strawberry farm at Wallington.
We have all developed a serious addiction to the juicy little darlings.

We tried blueberries as well but they just don't hit the spot.
Of course technique is of all importance.
Jack marches on ahead and will only pick the most perfect and succulent fruit.
Pip grabs a few and just gets stuck into them.
But one thing for certain is, we make sure our bellies are full before the fruit is weighed .
Is that wrong?

Saturday Morning Quilt.

 Front
I started this quilt when Pip was a baby. On the miracle chance both kids slept at once, I'd pull out the machine and join squares or strips together. After reading a number of sewing blogs, I remembered this UFO (unfinished object) and decided to have another go. Admittedly, it is now a lap quilt and not for my bed as intended. But at least it will be functional. I am using Moda fabrics which I love.  I think the white and red borders give it a fresh and crisp look.

Back
As I am an undisciplined sewer and tend to race around avoiding measuring and precise lines, I just hopes it goes together OK and not too bumpy...we'll see. It will still be pretty.

An unconventional workspace.

Colours

We took the car to get serviced and decided to walk home.
Naturally we took the long way.
The long, long way.
The tide was really low and the beach seemed endless.
It was great!

I enjoyed the colours of nature.
The little treasures.
The seaweed smell.
The purples.
The footprints.
I laughed when Pip's new pet cockroach Billy ran up her sleeve and she didn't mind.
Even when I undressed her in the carpark to find him.

Sunday 3 April 2011

5 minute tea towel skirt.

I found this skirt online. The heading said "What kind of mother would let her child go out in rags?" I liked it immediately. This is my kind of sewing. No measuring, no pattern, no brainer!

You can get some pretty groovy patterned tea towels. Pip chose this one.

Fold the fabric in half and cut the angle. Place them together right sides facing.

Sew up the sides. Fold over the top, sew and insert your elastic. The bottom is already hemmed.

Now it's dancing time.

...and when you are tired of it, you can use it to wash the car I guess.
